Competition ends JULY 26th 2008

I needs me one of them there posters!

What's up Noel?

First off I need to congratulate you for pulling off a remarkable directorial debut with 'AdULTHOOD'. It's neither here nor there really, but I feel (after wathcing it three times at the cinema) that having you direct your own material added an extra-special dimension to the film. I'm a prospective (student) writer from West London myself and I'm real proud that a guy from my corner of the world is making this kind of film. When I say 'this kind of film' I mean both the high standard of quality regarding stylistics, cinematography, writing, strong primary and secondary characters, excellent location, drawing great performances from novice actors; but also thematically- I believe you have made a film that everybody needs to look at, whether their lives bare parallels with the lives of the characters in the film or not. The film doesn't glorify this lifestyle (as certain critics of the film would have people believe), nor demonise it...rather I feel that your film simply says 'This is the reality of some people's lives, whether they asked for it or not. Come and have a look for yourselves'.

As an aspiring writer I found the film to be the most inspiring piece of cinema, containing valid and important social commentary, since 'This is England'. You made some brave decisions as both writer and director and I think they paid dividends, and would argue so with anyone. I need one of these posters on my wall as inspiration that it can be done, but also so that in a few years time my daughter can see the poster of my directorial debut sitting on the wall right next to the AdULTHOOD poster.

Keep up the good work brother, and I hope to see you at the BAFTA'S.

Peace, Den.

P.S. Why do they keep changing the dates for the competition end-date? I expected to win by last week.

Adulthood -Loved it.

Noel

I met you a while ago when i was working at Stratford East as the literary manager and also when I was auditioning for a short film BLOOD which Kolton Lee directed.

I always felt that your as a writer and a actor had a real sense of authenticity and rawness and I really enjoyed Kidulthood, but for me Adulthood is much more complex and accomplished in the film-making and story-telling. I wish you all the success that I know you've worked hard to achieve.

I currently work as a Learning Mentor in a school in Enfiled and it would be great if you could come down one time if you ever have time!

By the way I'd love one of the signed posters for the school. Working in a school where one student Ikye Nmezu was killed through gang related violence means the students are needing their stories and realities to be told and recognised and not only the symptoms and manifestation of the violence but also the consequences whichi think you work explores really well and helps to bring some understaning for a contemporary audience as well as furthering the debate around the ongoing issues surrounding young peoles lives

Thanks again for all your good work.

Regards : Ash Sohoye

noel is a big man

noel i thing i should have 1 of the posters because im a big fan of your films and what you do and i loved kidulthood the best movie i have seen got it on dvd watched it about 29 times got to get adulthood on dvd when it comes out.

Why I should have a poster! (please!)

Okay so I don't have an AMAZING reason like all of these about meeting you or anything and I've only recently bought/seen Kidulthood; mainly due to the fact that to be honest I thought there wouldn't be a point to it and it'd just be a film for all the gangsta kids to watch to inflate their "badman" egos and make them feel dope blud, ya get me?

But, it is, in fairness - amazing. I've still to see Adulthood (yes, I know I'm slow lol, it's not fair because it's not going to be shown in the cinemas soon and I'll have to wait til it's out on DVD which'll be an actual YEAR :( ), but I just can't stop watching it. I've never realised how some parts of London and it's youth culture actually are; regardless of all the stabbing cases going on recently :(. I love the "making of" featurette too, there's so many things to the film I didn't realise or spot until I watched that.

Oh yes - the winning reason - I used to watch 'Auf Wiedersehen, Pet' just for your face ahahah (:. Some c'mon man blud; don't chat no air and give me one of them posters before I bang yer up yeah? Pweeeeeease *flutters eyelids* Lol (:.
